Questions and Answers

Q. What did you study and where did you study it?
A.I am a self-taught artist who perfected my skills at LASALLE College of the Arts.

Q. What incident/s inspired you to be an artist?
A. Many years back, while I was in London, I crossed paths with a woman and her child. She was crying profusely and I knew something was amiss but she could not speak a word of English and I was not able to comprehend what she had attempted to convey to me, hence I was unable to help her. My heart sank as I walked away.
From that day onwards, I started to notice more often, people who were alone in their sadness and I did not know how to reach out to them.
I have always been passionate about art and I knew that through art I could raise awareness and be the voice of the unheard, not only on a personal level but also, globally because there are no language barriers in the world of art.

Q. What themes do you work on in the course of your art and why?
A. My collections revolve around different themes stemming from different situations.
The common ground that all my paintings share is that they showcase the emotions I go through with regard to the issues I paint about.
If I had to give a blanket theme to all my paintings, I would say that in essence, my paintings are about the internal struggles that people face and the external struggles that plague society.
Q. Tell us some life experiences that have influenced your work
A. I was born and raised in an affluent and conservative family and I had never known hardships. I had always been sheltered from reality by my loving, late parents who meant the world to me and more. As much as they protected me, they never failed to stress the importance of inner strength, hard work, determination, perseverance and above all, the ability to have the confidence and courage to believe in myself and everything that I stand for in life. I grew up watching them practice every single word of wisdom that they had preached and they were my perfect role models in life.
Art has always been my passion and after my parents passed away, it became my coping mechanism for everything that was going on in my life.
It was the only outlet for me to pour out my emotions which I did not know how to express adequately and so my canvases became my solace.
I found myself turning to my canvases and paints every time I tried to deal with difficult emotions.
The peace that no one else could give me in my darkest times, I found in my art.

Q. What message do you want or wish to convey through your art?
A. It would be to remind everybody who feels alone in their struggles that everyone is fighting their own unseen battle and that overcoming these obstacles is not a matter of moving past them but rather accepting and managing the challenges through positive channels, to grow because of them and using the bad experiences to ultimately become a better person and strive for a better and more meaningful purpose in life,
